I Will Survive

Just a quick note to let you all know I survived my tonsillectomy.

Hoorah!

When I got to the hospital at seven am yesterday I was told I was first in line for surgery.

No time like the present, yes? And, more importantly, no time to stew on it!

Less than an hour later I was in one of those extremely flattering and open-backed white robes and ushered off to the surgery ward, being pushed by a cheerful middle-aged man who smelt like cigarettes.

There I met the anesthetist who wasn't half as good looking as the anesthetist in Offspring and he put the drip in way too tight as it took three nurses and two pairs of scissors to get it out yesterday afternoon. "Those bloody men," one of the female nurses muttered. "Always doing them up too tight!"

I felt rather good waking up for the first time; my throat hardly hurt.

Then came the crash: lots of pain and lots of throwing up.

What got me through the afternoon, however, was the thought that Offspring was on last night and how desperately I wanted to watch it. Despite feeling rather sleepy I managed to stay up and hilariously enough my first thought after the episode finished was, "Mia Freedman's going to love this."

I woke up at six and had a very haphazard one-handed shower. I'm not sure how clean I am or my hair is, but I gave it my best shot! And when I dropped the shower head the nurse came rushing in asking if I was okay.

I've spent all day lying on a couch watching television and I'm feeling good. It hurts to talk but the whole not-moving from the couch thing has helped stacks.

I'm unsure when I'll return to regular blogging but hopefully in the not-too-distant future (ie a couple of days).

I'd better go. I'm on someone else's laptop and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong but I keep making the screen go different sizes and different menus keep popping up. Random!
