Mixed Bag of a Post

You'd think taking two weeks off work would actually mean two weeks off work... Then you'd be wrong.

I've been working hard since ten this morning, and it's not letting up!

I am, however, recovering well, thanks everyone for your well-wishes.

As you can tell, as a part of recovery meant I haven't been online as much lately.

Honestly, basically the only reason I went on a computer for all of last week was to stream Neighbours. Sad, yes. Important, definitely!

It's weird: usually I can't get enough of my computer/the internet/etc but lately I've been meh about the whole thing. Which is concerning to say the least.

However, things are getting back into the swing... of things... as they usually are. Ahem. Clearly, pain meds and no computer for a week has left my brain fried and unable to form a coherent sentence!

Here's an update in this girl's literary life:

I'll be blogging over at ALEA 2011 Conference all this weekend. I've been madly putting the blog together and gathering content for the posts. Four are going up tomorrow, another two posts on Thursday morning/early afternoon, and then from Thursday night I will be live blogging until Sunday night. Yes, live blogging! And it will actually be live too, not that Melbourne Writers Festival 'live' blogging where I wrote it in a word document and uploaded it at home.

At the ALEA conference I'll have my laptop and the internet and will be blogging as stuff happens. Exciting! Check it out if you're a teacher/love literacy.

Recovery is going well, if not still a little sore. I ended back at the hospital last Wednesday as it felt as if my throat was closing over and there were concerns for my breathing. You know, that small thing that keeps you alive. Five hours and six strong pills later and we headed home! We actually did alright. There was a woman waiting in the ER who had had brain surgery and she'd been waiting since ten am... We got there around six pm. Scary :s

Yesterday I went to the library and picked up three books for uni. Then I went to a shopping centre and purchased a further three books. I have another four on reserve at the library. Don't ask me how I'm supposed to read those in less than two weeks. I can read fast but not that fast!

Also, my sister and I watched The Adjustment Bureau last night and it was awful. Just awful!!

In some general book news:
1. Amazon bought The Book Depository. Yes, I am a little concerned.
2. J.K. Rowling left her agent (scandal!)
3. Melbourne's Readers Feast bookstore shuts down
4. Pearson buys Borders and Angus & Robertson

As for me?

I had the original goal of finishing the second round of MS edits before uni went back, but with less than two weeks before that happens and all the other stuff I've got on (work training, ALEA conference) it's not looking good.

So 'scuse me as I head back to it!
